In 1989, my father retired from the U.S. Navy and began DJing for a social club before moving back to Florida, at which time I moved in with him. He had with him a rack system stereo, 2 CD players, a mixer and about 10 CDs. When he moved back to Florida, he continued doing gigs as a hobby, and I tagged along with him. Over the next few years we steadily added CDs and slowly upgraded equipment to an amp, 2 CD players, a decent set of speakers, a mixer and a few different lights; a disco ball, laser light, etc., and together we would do gigs sporadically through the years. In 1998, I took a 4-year break to serve my country in the U.S. Marine Corps. During those 4 years, my father continued with his hobby. When I returned in 2002, the times had changed and seemed to have passed by my father. He was still using CDs as the media source for gigs. With a lot of persuasion, I was finally able to convince my father to get with the times and buy a laptop and transfer all the CDs to MP3s. By this time we had more than 400 CDs. Transferring every CD to an MP3 format would prove to be a daunting task. Over the next several years together, we DJ'd numerous weddings, parties, and social events. We never thought of DJ-ing as a true business, but mostly as something fun for us to do together and a way to make a little extra money. |

In 2007, I landed my dream job as a board operator at the number 1 radio station in the Pensacola area, "Your Country 102.7 WXBM." Over the years of doing gigs on the side as a hobby and the past 2 years of being at the radio station, I have learned a lot of how to read a crowd and play what people want to hear to keep the dance floor full. This experience has also taught me how to deal with people of all types. In March of 2008, a health setback made the decision for my father to call it quits and pass the torch to me. It was at that point that I decided it was way past time to go full throttle with the business. I began buying new equipment, new lights, and seriously loading up my music library, all in preparation for making this a true full-fledged business. Over the years all of our advertisement was done by word of mouth. Even with all this new equipment I still wasn't quite ready to start advertising or get going completely. I wanted to make sure that I was able to offer the absolute best in every aspect of this business before I hit the pavement hard with advertising and getting my name out there. |

Tragedy struck our family in February of 2009 when my son was stillborn. There were no answers to all of my questions of "Why?" and "What if?" That was totally unacceptable to me. Through research I found many organizations dedicated to finding answers for families victimized by stillbirth. Statistics were sobering. Sixty-eight babies are born silently every single day (that is about 1 in every 115 births). Over half of these losses occur without a reason ever being discovered. From my grief rose the desire to join the fight. I wanted to be a part of the solution. To help others find answers to their questions. To support medical technology to find ways to prevent stillbirth so no other father has to tell their child goodbye. Unfortunately I did not have the extra money to donate due to the economy. It was at that point I decided it's now or never. I chose the name "B.I.E. Sound & DJ Services," honoring my son by using his initials. Up went the website, out went the business cards, and the rest is history. Staying true to our commitment of battling stillbirth, $50 from every paid event will be donated in the event host's name towards this very worthy cause. Being told, "We don't know" isn't good enough! We now have more than 7,000 songs in our library with music from virtually every genre, dating back to the 1950s. If we don't have it, we will find it and add it. We are committed to making your event the best and emphasize that with our satisfaction guarantee. We are very flexible and willing to work around almost any obstacle. We welcome the opportunity to work with you for all of your social events, present and future. You make the decisions, we make it happen. Pensacola Sound & DJ (originally "B.I.E. Sound and DJ Services") and "Your Country, 102.7 WXBM" are in no way affiliated. |
